Uh...Where Does She Get This Stuff?
Published Tuesday, October 11th 2011My 4-year-old has a new affectation. Nowadays, any new sentence is preceded by "Uh..."
As in, "Uh...Mommy, are you making chicken again for dinner?"
Or "Uh...Alaina, why are you wearing that?"
Or even "Uh...Daddy, I want to watch Mickey. Not Olivia."
Everything said with a hint of condescension, as though she cannot believe how ridiculous her family is. ("Uh...how did I get stuck with these people?")
My question is, where did she get this affectation? Now I'm paranoid that I talk like that. I've started an internal examination of my speech patterns to determine if I'm the offender. If so, I need to drop it pronto because, I have to say, it's rather annoying.
Which leads me to the realization that my kids will be great personality spot checks for me. With my luck, they'll pick up all my quirky idiosyncracies in the years to come and I'll be doomed to frequent self reflection and periodic purging. My one shining beacon of hope in all this is that a 4-year-old's attention span is miniscule, and by next week she'll be on to the next thing.
Uh....did I mention that I have a bad habit of correcting everyone's grammar...? OK, that one I'm probably not going to purge.
